That $80 gas station scanner I bought really paid off last month

I work the night shift at a QuickTrip in Phoenix, been stuck there two years now, and I finally spent some money on a decent obd2 scanner after my checkout light came on like crazy. That little gadget saved me $400 at the shop when it pointed out a bad oxygen sensor, just cost me $30 to fix it myself in the lot after my shift. Anyone else drop cash on a tool that ended up making a dead end gig a little less soul-crushing?

bad oxygen sensor" are you serious? you fixed that in the parking lot after a night shift? lol that's insane but also mad respect. i got a cheap code reader last year and it told me my gas cap was loose and i felt like a genius for all of 5 seconds. it's crazy how one little tool can make you feel like you're not getting totally screwed by life for once.

Wait, are people really treating a code reader like some kind of life hack now? I mean, mine told me my air filter was dusty once and I spent like forty minutes feeling proud of myself before I realized it takes zero skill to plug something in. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you saved some cash on the gas cap thing, but let's not pretend reading a code is on the same level as actually fixing something that could leave you stranded. A light going off doesn't make you a mechanic any more than owning a calculator makes you a math genius.
