My choice between a big raise and a job I actually liked

I had to pick between staying at my old job for a 20% raise or leaving for a new role that paid less but was way more interesting. I picked the new job about six months ago. The work is more fun and I don't dread Mondays anymore, but my budget is definitely tighter now. Has anyone else taken a pay cut for better work and how did you make the money side work?

How tight is the budget? I did the same thing a few years back. I had to cut out a lot of dumb spending, like subscriptions I never used and eating out so much. It forced me to actually track my money for the first time.

It's wild how many people only learn to track money when they have to. That pressure to cut back forces a basic skill most of us never pick up. You end up seeing where it all actually goes.

Yeah, that part about learning to track money when you have to is so true, like @fisher.reese said. I made a similar switch and my budget got so tight I had to actually look at my bank statement. Turns out I was basically paying a monthly fee just to own a gym membership I used twice. Cutting that dumb stuff out hurt at first, but now I know where every dollar goes, which is a weird kind of peace of mind even if I have less of them.
