Thought co-working spaces were just a trendy fad until I crunched the numbers on my Greenfield lease
After 18 months of paying $1,200 a month for a solo office near Southfield, splitting a $400 desk at a place in Ferndale is saving me so much on parking and utilities I actually make a profit most weeks, anyone else find that a shared setup beats renting your own spot?

I saw a piece on NPR last month about how co-working spaces are actually forcing landlords to rethink their whole model, especially in places like Ferndale where rent keeps going up. You mentioned splitting a $400 desk vs that $1,200 lease and honestly that math is wild. I've been using a shared spot in Royal Oak since March and the biggest shock was how much I saved just on coffee and printer ink alone, not to mention having a receptionist to sign for packages. The only downside I've noticed is sometimes the wifi gets crowded during lunch rush but that's a small trade off. Feels like a no brainer if you're not doing client meetings in your space all day.

@walker.robert that NPR thing probably made it sound like some big revolution or whatever. But really it's just a desk. The math on your 1200 vs 400 is solid for sure, but people act like it's a life changer when it's really just a cheaper way to work. Wifi getting crowded during lunch is exactly the kind of hassle nobody mentions. And that receptionist? Half the time they don't actually sign for anything where I've been. It's fine but not like some massive shift in the whole real estate game.
