Rant: I thought those cheap drawing tablets were all junk

Bought a $40 one off Amazon last month expecting it to be terrible, but the pressure sensitivity is actually decent. Has anyone else been surprised by a budget art tool that actually works?

Wow, my cheap watercolor set from the dollar store turned out pretty good too.

That "cheap watercolor set from the dollar store" line from you, @faithn51, really hits on something I see all the time. We get told we need the expensive gear or the perfect tools to start anything, but it's just not true. Some of the best results come from just working with what you have and learning the basics first. It's a good reminder that skill often matters way more than the price tag.

That "cheap watercolor set from the dollar store" line really got me thinking lol. It's like how people won't start running because they don't have the right shoes, or they won't try cooking because they don't have a fancy knife set. I see it everywhere now that I'm paying attention - people holding themselves back because they think they need the best gear first. But honestly, most of the time just having something to start with is way more important than having the perfect thing. The real secret is just doing it, learning as you go, and upgrading later if you even need to. You proved that with your watercolors, and it's the same for pretty much everything else out there.
