My old way of painting trim always left a sticky mess, but a guy at the hardware store showed me a trick.

I used to just slap paint on my window trim right after cleaning it, thinking a damp rag was enough. That led to peeling paint and a sticky finish every single time, especially in my bathroom. Last spring, a guy at Ace Hardware told me to wipe the trim down with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar and let it dry for an hour before painting. It was a game changer. Has anyone else found a simple prep step that fixed a constant problem?

My uncle was a painter for forty years and he swore by wiping everything down with denatured alcohol. He said soap leaves a film and water just moves dirt around. I tried it on some kitchen cabinets last fall and it made the paint stick so much better. The can was like eight bucks and it dried in minutes.

Yeah, I did the same thing before painting my bathroom trim and it made a huge difference. No more peeling paint.
