I used to think a concrete floor was fine for a garage, but sealing it changed my mind

My floor was a dusty mess for two years, and oil stains were a pain. I finally put down a basic epoxy sealer last month and now it cleans up with a quick mop. How long does a decent sealer usually last before you need to redo it?

Changed your mind" is a bit strong for a garage floor. It's just a place to park a car and store junk. My unsealed floor has been fine for a decade. A little dust never hurt anyone, and a bag of oil dry takes care of spills. Spending a weekend on epoxy seems like a lot of work for a space that's just going to get dirty again anyway.

You know what this reminds me of? People putting off small fixes that make daily life way easier. How many times have you dealt with a wobbly shelf or a leaky faucet for years, then fixed it in an hour and kicked yourself for not doing it sooner? A sealed floor is like that. It's not about making the garage fancy, it's about stopping a constant low-grade hassle. That dust gets tracked everywhere and oil stains are a real chore. Spending a weekend to not fight your own floor for five years sounds like a win to me.

My garage floor epoxy lasted about five years before it started to chip near the door. That's a pretty good run for a weekend project, and it made cleaning so much easier the whole time. I'd say it was worth the effort.
