Vent: My paint job uncovered a hidden wall message from the past owners
I mean, I painted over it without telling the new buyers, and now I'm wondering if that was shady or just practical. Maybe it's just me, but DIY can get weirdly ethical sometimes.

Ever think about just taking a photo before painting over stuff like that? I did that with some old scribbles in my place... showed the pics to the new owners later and @blake_lewis is right, it's part of the house's story.

That message must have said something specific, like "The Smiths, 1998" or maybe even a kid's height chart. What did it actually say? If it was just some random pencil marks, who cares, but if it was clearly meaningful to the previous family, why keep it a secret? You already did the work to cover it, so what's the real worry here, that you erased a piece of the house's story?
