Talked to my neighbor about his pegboard wall and it got me thinking
I was out in the driveway last Saturday trying to organize my tools in the garage, just stacking stuff on a shelf like I always have. My neighbor Bob walked over and asked why I don't use pegboard like he does. He showed me his setup, he has every tool hung up with a shadow outline painted behind each one so you can see if something is missing. I thought it was overkill at first but then he said he hasn't lost a single socket or wrench in like 5 years. It hit me different because I spend 10 minutes every time I need a specific drill bit digging through a bin. I'm thinking about doing the same thing now, maybe starting with just one 4x8 sheet by the workbench. Has anyone else tried the shadow outline method, or is that too much for a basic home garage?

I did the shadow outline thing in my garage about 2 years ago and it's honestly been a game changer for me. I started small too, just one 4x8 sheet for my most used wrenches and screwdrivers, then expanded later. The trick is to take a picture of the board before you paint the outlines so you have a reference for spacing. Just don't skip the step of painting a thin clear coat over the outlines if you want them to last, mine started flaking after a year because I got cheap with it.
