Back in the day, we never had this much trouble with corner bead.
I keep seeing guys on new builds in Charlotte using way too much mud under the bead, which guarantees a crack in six months, and I know because I've had to fix dozens of them.

Seen that exact thing happen. The trick is to use just enough mud to hold it, not float it. If you press the bead and mud oozes out the sides, you're using way too much.

@lucas_jenkins you're right that full contact matters, but too much mud just makes a mess and can crack later. Best trick I've found is to butter the back of the bead with a thin skim first, then press it into place. Wipe off any tiny bits that squeeze out, but if you're getting a big ooze line, it's definitely too heavy.

Disagree on the mud amount. I've had beads fail because they didn't have enough grab. A thin skim just doesn't bond well to some surfaces. You need enough to squish out a tiny bit, then tool it clean. That ooze you wipe off proves you got full contact. What's your go-to mud for this?
