My friend's kid broke my vintage lamp last week and I'm stuck on whether to ask them to pay for it.
It was a $75 find from an antique store in Ann Arbor, and I feel bad because the kid is only 6, but it's also a real loss. How do you handle when a guest accidentally damages something you care about?

My friend just sent a check after her kid broke a vase.

That's a tough spot, webb.linda. I sent the check back with a note saying the gesture meant more than the vase. It kept the friendship from getting weird over an accident.
