PSA: A local cat is taking garden gnomes and I'm stuck on the right thing to do
This stray cat in our area has been moving garden gnomes from yards to the park. I saw it drag one from my porch last week. Now I have to decide if I should take the gnomes back or let it be a funny community thing. It feels wrong to mess with the cat's new hobby, but people are missing their decorations. Is it okay to just laugh it off?
Let the cat have its art show. Why not make it a game for everyone? People could paint a gnome bright pink or put a little hat on it, then see if it ends up in the park. It becomes a fun thing to look for and turns into a local story. Taking them back just seems like ruining the only good news we've got. That cat is doing something way more interesting than any of us.
My buddy had a similar thing happen with a squirrel that kept stealing shiny Christmas ornaments. He started leaving out old, cheap ones just for it, and the whole street got into guessing which bauble would vanish next. Honestly, the gnome thing sounds like the start of a much better neighborhood story than anyone planned. That cat is putting in the work for some free public art. Maybe just let people know where to find their gnomes if they really want them back.
