inI was sure my Albuquerque neighbor was wrong about using a heat gun on old window putty, but it worked perfectly on my 1950s casement.
Oh man, that's a solid tip. Most people grab a putty knife and start chipping, which just cracks the old wood. The heat softens everything up so it peels off in long strips, no splinters. Saves hours of cleanup.

inA guy at the Eastern Market wholesale flower auction told me his family's been bidding there since 1978.
That's a serious family tradition right there. I'd be asking them what the biggest change they've seen is, like if certain flowers got way more popular or if the bidding process went digital. Those old timers have seen the whole market shift over decades. You learn more from their stories than any guidebook.

inSo I tried to build a floating shelf after watching a five minute video
Oh man, drywall anchors are a must. My first shelf fell off the wall too, scared my cat half to death. The metal toggle bolt ones are the only kind I trust now.

inMy sourdough starter straight up died on me after a cross country move
You named your starter Bubbles? That's the real tragedy here. I've heard of starters getting moody with new water, but a full on death is rough. Maybe try bottled water next time, just to rule that out.

inJust found out how many board games are in the BGG database and my mind is blown
Filter by what your friends own and have rated highly. That cuts the noise way down. My weirdest find was a print-and-play about stacking office supplies.
