Unpopular opinion: The scariest part of Coraline isn't the Other Mother

It's the fact that the other parents literally just want to love her and keep her safe, but their version of love means sewing buttons into her eyes. Took me like 3 rewatches to realize how messed up that is, has anyone else had a movie hit different years later?

the part that gets me even more is the cat. think about it. the cat knows everything that's going on. it can talk in the other world. it warns Coraline over and over. but it never fully explains what the Other Mother really is or how deep the trap goes. the cat is basically letting her figure it out on her own. like a test. and that's way scarier than the button eyes. the cat has been through this before with other kids. probably watched them fail. and it just casually tags along like it's no big deal. that's cold.
