My sister told me to just 'sleep on it' before making big decisions...

So I slept on whether to buy a $600 couch from Facebook Marketplace. Woke up, drove over there, and the thing had a massive cat pee stain I totally missed in the dark photos. Saved my cash and my nose. Anyone else have advice that actually works?

Exactly. That "sleep on it" advice has saved me from buying junk on a whim more times than I can count. It just forces your brain to filter out the excitement and look at the facts with fresh eyes. If the deal still makes sense in the morning, it probably is a good one.

The whole "sleep on it" thing really does tap into something bigger... it's like how we're trained to react fast to everything nowadays, from texts to sales. @leep33, you're spot on about that fresh eyes part though. I've noticed it works for more than just shopping too - like when I'm about to send an angry email or make a snap decision about something. Letting that night pass helps the noise settle down and you see the real picture... it's almost like your brain needs time to catch up with itself.
