A guy on a forum told me I was cleaning my used phone buys wrong
I used to just wipe down secondhand phones with a damp cloth until someone pointed out I was probably just smearing grime into the ports. Switched to using 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush on the charging port and speaker grilles now. Game changer for getting that sticky residue off without damaging anything.

Is it really that deep though? Like I get wanting a clean phone but a damp cloth isn't gonna break anything unless you're soaking the thing. Seems like a lot of extra effort for a used phone that's probably gonna get scratched up again anyway.

I mean, not to be that person but I think there's a difference between wiping it down with a damp cloth and actually getting moisture into the charging port or the speaker grilles. I've seen people literally dunk their phones in water or use like a soaking wet paper towel and then wonder why the screen starts acting weird. The port is usually the main thing that gets messed up if water gets in there. But yeah for a quick wipedown you're probably fine, just be careful around the bottom edge.
