Got cornered at a BBQ by a guy who swore he knew a better way to run fiber

He kept drawing diagrams in the air with his burger. I just wanted to eat my potato salad in peace.

The burger diagrams really sell it. Nothing says networking expertise like gesturing with a drippy cheeseburger. Hope your potato salad was at least safe from his groundbreaking fiber hot takes.

Honestly that burger probably taught more about layers than his actual presentation did. I mean at least you can see the cheese protocol in action, right? Maybe next time he'll switch to tacos and finally explain packet loss.

Burger diagrams might actually help people understand networking better. Who says learning can't be a little messy?

My cousin once used spaghetti to explain network topology and I'm still finding sauce stains!

Keep a stack of napkins handy when the food metaphors start... last summer, a guy explained firewalls using onion rings and it got messy. For the potato salad, just relocate it to a far corner of the picnic table. If fiber talk kicks in, quickly ask about the grill temperature or drink refills. Redirecting the conversation saves your side dishes and your sanity. Creating that physical space between snacks and speeches is key... learned that the hard way.
