Stood up by a friend 3 times in a row - finally realized I was the problem
Last month my friend Jen cancelled on me 3 Fridays in a row. I was so mad I almost stopped talking to her. Then my sister pointed out that I always pick the same restaurant and only talk about my job. I looked back at the last 6 months and realized I never asked Jen about her new puppy or her mom's surgery. So I called her up last week and just asked how she was doing for 20 minutes. She invited me over this Saturday for board games - first time she's initiated anything in like a year. Has anyone else caught themselves being the friend who makes everything about them?

Nah, you're overthinking it. Friends should just deal with your quirks.

Three cancellations and a Tuesday walk into a bar... the bartender says "sorry, we're closed." Friends dealing with quirks is one thing, but when your whole social circle needs a calendar just to figure out if you're actually showing up, that's less a quirk and more a full-time hobby. I've got a buddy who cancels so often I started sending him a confirmation email like I'm booking a hotel room. Quirks are forgetting to text back, not treating every plan like a dinner reservation at a place that might close down. At some point "just deal with it" turns into "just deal with me not being around.
