Warning: That 'hidden gem' anime everyone keeps hyping on Reddit might be a trap

I was super skeptical about Rent-A-Girlfriend when my buddy kept pushing it, but after 12 episodes I realized it's actually just a cash grab with no real character growth. The whole thing is filler, and the MC doesn't learn anything. Has anyone else fallen for a series that turned out to be all hype?

The Rent-A-Girlfriend example is spot on because that show literally trapped people with its premise. You keep waiting for Kazuya to grow a spine or for Chizuru to actually address her feelings, but it just loops the same drama over and over. That's the real trap with these hyped series - the first season hooks you with a promising setup, then you're 50 episodes in and nothing has fundamentally changed. It's like the writer realized the paycheck was too good to risk actually resolving anything.

Why would anyone sit through 50 episodes hoping for a change that never comes?
