Debate: do you fix it yourself or call someone the second it breaks?
Last Saturday my water heater went out at 6am. I spent 4 hours trying to swap the element myself, saved $150 on a service call, but then flooded the basement because I forgot to tighten a fitting. Meanwhile my buddy across town paid a guy $400 and had hot water by noon. Which side are you on? Does the money saved make the headache worth it or is paying for peace of mind the smarter move?

Does the pride in fixing it yourself outweigh the cost of a pro when you mess up the floor?

Isn't learning from a mistake part of the pride though? I'd rather mess up a floor and know how to fix it than pay someone and not understand how it all works.

Watch people who never try anything hard slowly lose the ability to solve problems entirely.
