TIL a customer's weird question turned into my best day at the shop
This past Tuesday started normal, just another oil change and a brake job. Then a guy in a beat-up 2004 Civic rolls in, says his car makes a 'whistling' noise only when it's above 70 degrees outside and he's turning left. I thought he was messing with me. We spent like two hours just driving around town, waiting for the temp to hit 70, and sure enough, there it was. Turned out to be a tiny crack in a vacuum hose behind the intake manifold that only opened up with heat and engine torque. Finding that felt like solving a puzzle. Has anyone else had a problem that sounded totally made up but ended up being real?

Wait you actually drove around for TWO HOURS waiting for it to hit 70 degrees. That is some serious dedication right there. I would have told the guy to come back in summer. The fact it was a tiny crack that only opened up with heat AND turning is just wild. Some cars have the weirdest personalities.
