Rant: My whole imaging run got wrecked by a neighbor's security light

Last night I was finally getting a clear shot at the Orion Nebula after weeks of clouds. I had my scope set up in the backyard, got everything focused, and started a 3 hour run. About 45 minutes in, my neighbor across the fence turned on this new, super bright motion light that lit up my whole yard. It completely flooded my subs with orange light, ruining the whole batch. I had to pack it all in, super frustrating. Anyone know a good way to politely ask someone to maybe not use a floodlight at 2am?

That's a special kind of bad luck, like stellas56 said. Have you considered maybe your neighbor got that light because of actual security worries? A friendly chat about the light pollution could lead to a compromise, like pointing it down more or using a shield. You could even offer to check their camera angles to help. It turns a complaint into solving a problem together.

Weeks of clouds then that? Brutal.
