My mom told me my 'help' was actually making things harder

I used to send my parents a big check for Christmas every year, thinking it was a nice surprise. After my dad passed, I kept doing it for my mom. She finally sat me down last spring and said, 'Honey, it just makes me feel old and like I can't handle my own bills.' I mean, that hit me. I switched to just covering one specific thing, like her internet bill for the year. It feels way less like I'm taking over. Anyone else have to change how they help after a parent got honest with them?

My buddy's dad finally admitted all the tech support calls just made him feel stupid.

My grandpa still thinks the internet lives in the computer box.

Maybe it's not that deep though, like @jason951's grandpa with the internet box. Tech just changes fast and makes everyone feel behind sometimes. Calling that "feeling stupid" seems a bit harsh.
