Remember when a decent stand mixer was a huge investment?

I dropped $450 on a KitchenAid about 15 years ago and it's still running every single day. Anyone else have a tool that just refuses to quit?

A stand mixer is just a motor with a bowl. My grandma used a hand mixer for 50 years. It feels like we call things "investments" now just because they're expensive. A good toaster oven gets used way more often and nobody talks about that.

I read an article last year that said the average stand mixer gets used less than 20 times a year. @kelly.parker is right about the toaster oven, I use mine almost every single day. People call a mixer an investment because it's a big shiny thing that looks professional, not because it's actually useful. My hand mixer does the job fine for cookies and it cost maybe thirty bucks. The whole "buy it for life" idea gets twisted to justify buying stuff we just want, not stuff we need. It's okay to just admit you want the nice kitchen toy instead of pretending it's some smart money move.

My dad's 1980s Craftsman drill still works better than my new one.
