Vent: I thought the 'no pre-made spreads' rule was just gatekeeping

I used a store-bought planner for 6 months and felt zero connection to my tasks. Switched to a blank notebook and drew my own weekly log, and the act of writing things down actually made me remember them. Has anyone else had a system click after ditching the pre-printed stuff?

What kind of stuff are you actually drawing in your weekly log? Like, are you just making boxes for tasks, or are you adding weird little symbols or doodles that mean something just to you?

Start with a few symbols you'll actually remember. I tried a full page key once and spent more time looking up my own code than getting work done. Keep it simple so it helps instead of making more work.

Oh it's way more than boxes. I have a whole system. Like a tiny star means a high priority task, a little cloud means I felt off that day, and a coffee cup doodle means I had a really good meeting. The symbols just help me remember the mood of a task, not just if I did it.
