Am I the only one who had a perm go fully sideways on a Saturday afternoon?
I was working on a perm for a regular client in my chair at Shear Style in Portland last month. The timer on my phone died and I left the solution on for 8 extra minutes by accident. Her hair turned into this weird crispy cotton candy texture and I had to do a deep protein treatment and cut off 3 inches immediately. Has anyone else had a timer fail on them and how did you fix the damage?

Grab a cheap kitchen timer from the dollar store and keep it in your station as a backup. That saved me after my phone died mid-roll last month and I barely caught it before the damage set in. Even one extra minute with the solution can turn hair into sticky mess, so always double-check with two separate timers.

I get the idea but honestly @miab16, is one extra minute really going to turn your hair into a sticky mess? I've definitely spaced out and left solution on a little longer than planned and it was fine, just a little drier maybe. I think two timers is overkill unless you're really prone to forgetting stuff or have super fragile hair.
