Visited a high-end salon in Miami last month and everyone was using box dye on clients

I went to this trendy spot in South Beach for a guest pass and watched three stylists grab drugstore hair color from a stash under their station. They charged $200+ for a single process but used the same $7 stuff I can buy at CVS. Am I the only one who thinks skill matters more than the brand in the bottle?

Feel you on this one, it's wild how much of the cost is just the NAME of the place not the actual skill involved. A good stylist knows how to work color regardless of what's in the bottle, the box dye thing just feels like a rip off though.

Honestly, I don't get why everyone's making such a big deal about this. Tbh, who cares if they used box dye? You're paying for the skill and the application, not the brand name on the bottle. Ngl, I've seen top tier colorists in big cities do amazing work with cheap stuff cause they know how to pull it off. If the color comes out right and you don't have damage, why does the label matter? Feel like people get hung up on the price tag of the product when the real value is the talent behind the chair.
