My attempt at a 'quick' backsplash tile job turned into a full kitchen demo
I started with a simple plan to replace the 4x4 tiles behind my sink in my Chicago apartment, thinking it would take a weekend. After prying off the first tile, a huge chunk of the drywall came with it, revealing old water damage and mold. Has anyone else had a small project explode like this, and what did you do next?

That exact thing happened to us with a bathroom. The real kicker was finding out our home insurance might cover some of the mold remediation, which we never would have thought to ask about.

Wait your insurance actually covered mold? I had a whole basement issue last year and they told me it was basically never covered unless it came from a sudden pipe burst. The fine print said gradual damage was out. You must have gotten really lucky with your policy or a decent adjuster.

Yeah @hannah_flores99, that's a solid tip. Most people don't even think to check their policy.
