Showerthought: I tried designing a dress with 3D printed fabric versus old school draping

I mean, it sounded cool in theory, right? I spent like 80 hours modeling this geometric panel dress to be printed in flexible filament. The final thing looked like a fancy plastic bag and weighed a ton. For my next piece, I just grabbed some silk jersey and pinned it on a mannequin for an afternoon. The draped version flowed way better and actually felt nice to wear. Maybe it's just me but sometimes the simple way is just the right way. Has anyone else tried mixing super new tech with traditional methods and had it totally flop?

Remember trying to make a smart home garden with sensors and auto-watering? The app kept crashing and I drowned three basil plants. Went back to a cheap watering can and a sunny window, and now I have more herbs than I can use. Sometimes you just need to touch the dirt to know when it's dry.

Read a piece about a chef who tried to cook everything with a sous vide machine and the food just tasted flat.
