I visited a high-end furniture showroom in Portland and their drawer construction method seemed needlessly complex.

They were using a locked miter joint with a 3mm reveal on every drawer front, which looked nice but added at least two hours of extra machine setup and hand-fitting per piece compared to a standard rabbeted front.

Sounds like overkill for a drawer. All that extra work for a tiny reveal nobody will notice...

My last drawer project had so much hand fitting I swear my dovetails grew dovetails. Spent a whole afternoon getting a 2mm gap just right, only for my cat to use it as a nap spot. Sometimes the fancy way just means you get really good at fixing your own mistakes.

That's just job security with extra steps.
